Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario

While not specific to mental health issues, veterans and their families may, at some point, need assistance to help them in dealing with elder abuse.

Elder abuse or elder mistreatment is a multidimensional phenomenon, that encompasses a broad range of behaviors, events, and circumstances and is recurrent in up to 80 percent of cases.  Studies indicate that two to ten percent of seniors are abused, which amounts to between 40,000 and 200,000 seniors living in Ontario alone.

Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario provides a 24/7 Seniors Safety Line for elderly residents (including veterans and their families) who are victims of abuse.  The line provides seniors with contact and referral information for local agencies across the province that can assist.
